This explains the basic principles of an air source heat pump (ASHP), and how it is able to extract heat from the air even when the weather is cold.
It uses a simplified illustration of a monoblock system, and gives examples of how air-to-air and air-to-water systems can be integrated with household heating systems.
A simple comparison of ASHPs with electric and gas heating systems is included, based on an anticipated COP of 2.5.
